Meet Shannon Vasquez, an elementary school teacher and KidMin enthusiast. She’ll energize you on the journey to discover an effective approach to teaching children based on Jesus’ model, brain research, and learning styles.
Module 1. A Teaching Parable
Using the Parable of the Sower, you’ll shift your perspective from being just a “teacher” to a “sower” to help kids not just hear, but truly understand God’s Word.
Module 2. Authentic Learning Helps Kids Understand
Discover how to cement learning through experiences, avoiding busywork and incorporating a variety of learning styles. You’ll practice how to use kid-friendly language and realize five ways to focus learning on understanding.
Module 3. Authentic Learning Is Memorable
If we want the seeds of God’s message to take root in kids’ hearts and lives, we need to think beyond short-term knowledge and instead practice strategies for helping kids grow a lifelong friendship with Jesus. This module will unlock secrets of brain research that lead to long-term memory.
Module 4. Authentic Learning Is Meaningful, Not Manipulative

About the Instructor
Shannon Vasquez is an elementary school teacher and VBS aficionado. Before serving as a Children’s Pastor in Denver, she spent many years on Group’s VBS creative development team, firing up the fun for millions of children. She holds a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from The University of Denver. She’s been passionate about KidMin since she was a kid in min! When her peers moved up to youth group, she stayed behind as a teacher’s aide and then a Sunday school teacher. VBS is Shannon’s “Super Bowl” where she’s head cheerleader, continuing to add spice and excitement to Group’s annual field tests.
